The snubbing of Spider-Man: No Way Home is telling because historically the PGA has been the one industry guild inclined to champion populist entertainment, including when Black Panther and Joker both went on to receive Best Picture nominations at those years’ Oscars. Like the Screen Actors and Directors guilds, producers in the PGA have overlap with the voting body within the Academy. But unlike SAG or the DGA, the PGAs tend to be more open to celebrate successes that connect with audiences—and often signaling to the rest of Hollywood that they should do the same on Oscar night....

Spores are a big deal in Star Trek. This may sound like a retroactive canon thing, given that the propulsion system of the USS Discovery basically runs on mushrooms, but, the truth is, spores also gave Star Trek: The Original Series one of its most pivotal and important episodes: “This Side of Paradise.” Prior to Prodigy‘s release, we were told that the kid-geared series would be drawing inspiration from all corners of Trek universe and, in a kind of strange tribute to both the spores of Discovery and the spores of TOS, the new kids’ animated series Star Trek: Prodigy now also has its own spore-centric arc....
In fact, I probably would have been upset if you told me that remake would go so far as to significantly change any aspect of the original game’s combat, story, or any of the other elements that have led many to call it one of the best RPGs of the last 20 years and arguably the best Star Wars game ever made. After seeing the first teaser trailer for Aspyr’s upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake for PS5 and PC, though…well, I’m honestly starting to feel pretty good about the possibility that this remake is going to change quite a few elements of the original game....
To the surprise of absolutely no one who follows the movie business, the Star Wars film announced back in late 2020 on a Disney investor’s call has been removed from the Disney release schedule. The Lucasfilm project was set to arrive on Dec. 22, 2023, a date which stubbornly remained on the calendar even as months went by with no appreciable movement on the movie. Patty Jenkins had been slated to direct the movie, which would have been the first new Star Wars theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker underperformed at the box office—it also would’ve been the first Star Wars movie, period, to be directed by a woman....
Just a little over 20 years ago, Lucasfilm released Attack of the Clones, the middle chapter of George Lucas’ Prequel Trilogy. Positioned to be the installment that did away with the much-maligned trade disputes and Senate meetings of The Phantom Menace, this follow-up delivered plenty of Jedi action, evil villains, and even Yoda with a lightsaber. But Lucas, never quite content with the “more of the same” Hollywood approach to blockbusters, also infused Attack of the Clones with a few other things never before seen in the franchise: a predictable and exposition-heavy detective story as well as an ill-advised romantic subplot that came off as creepy even in 2002....
And then there’s Stath Lets Flats, a comedy so rich in nutrients you could live off it for well over a year. Which fans have had to, because the brilliant second series which won all the awards Bafta could give it, aired all the way back in summer 2019. Series three arrives today, after a delay due to the pandemic and the packed schedules of its increasingly in-demand cast. That cast includes creator Jamie Demetriou, who plays inept Greek-Cypriot lettings agent Stath; Natasia Demetriou, who plays his dopey would-be singer sister Sophie; Katy Wix as career-minded Carole, who’s what would happen if you put all of the female contestants on The Apprentice into a blender and froze the results into a human-shaped ice lolly; Kiell Smith-Bynoe as the perpetually exasperated Dean; Ellie White as bad girl Eastern European lady postman Katia; and Al Roberts as Al, a man so self-effacing that if you ran him over, he’d apologise for denting your car....
And since Gunn’s new film, while technically IS a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad movie, it plays it as loose as possible with that, in part because of the critical savaging the first David Ayer movie received. But for years, there have been whispers (well, more than whispers) that the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad wasn’t the film Ayer intended to make, and that the movie was re-cut in a panic after brutal reviews of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice six months earlier....

Avery Sunderland has a “Long Walk Home” in Swamp Thing episode 8, which serves as an interesting exploration of the character while also thrusting the action forward, and places Swampy in real danger. But is there enough time to wrap everything up by the series finale in two weeks? The episode opens focused on Will Patton’s Avery in the swamp, and by all appearances, close to death. And that’s how the swamp wants it....
